Balux Cafe the House Project

Yesterday’s temperatures gave us a good reason to spend the afternoon at the beach. We headed for the Balux Cafe, an amazing set up at the beach of Glyfada, just 5 km away from Vouliagmeni.

The House Project provides a unique beach experience: the building is set up like a family home, with living areas, library, dining, gaming, relaxation and more. A place for the whole family. On top of it: when the sun sets, part of the beach is converted into the most romantic dining place focusing on Sushi.

To resume, a nice day out at a great place with friendly and efficient staff and uncountable possibilities to relax and enjoy life. By the way: the Club Sandwich was worth every cent!

New Butterfly Images on YouTube

Some of my earlier Butterflies made it to YouTube. From the clip you can see under which conditions the pictures have been taken: it was quite windy and the subject was moving in an unpredictable way. Still it’s a nice lot of Butterfly Images.

The EXIF data are roughly the same for all butterfly images:

As you can see, the pics have been taken with a credit card size point and shoot cam (the c-lux 3 is the smallest Leica available and it has the merit to fit into any pocket). The shots were difficult due to the wind conditions. Towards the end of the YouTube clip I inserted a few seconds of footage shot with the same cam to demonstrate how the subject was moving in an unpredictable way.

The quality of the images are surprising namely when you look at the HD version in full screen mode on YouTube. The wing span of the Butterfly is about 5 cm (2 inches) and yet, the large sizes are still pretty impressive.

No corrections have been applied, just some cropping for reasons of loading time.

Varkiza Folk Dance

Varkiza, just around the corner from Vouliagmeni hosted last Sunday an exhibition of popular dances from various areas of Greece as well as from Russia and India. A great opportunity to test my camera’s low light skills. Considering the heavy zooming, the results below show that with a point and shoot cam nice souvenirs can be realized. No Photoshop or other corrections have been applied.

Subsequent to the recent update of WordPress and the Release of WordPress 3.0 we notice that WordPress based sites run out of memory.  While the WP script by itself does not seem to have a problem to run on 32 MB of RAM, the plug-in producers often do not care about the impact of their scripts on server resources.

In fact … free plug-ins can become expensive if they trigger a need to upgrade server resources. Also many of the plug-ins come with loads of links, from donation buttons to whole websites paired with Google Analytics … these plug-ins are more parasites than doing any good to the site.

One of our servers at yorgobiz.com experienced some downtime yesterday due to a corrupt OS. We had to reload the server  and all sites are up and working fine again.

We are inquiring about what has caused the issue.

What is the YorgoBiz Server all about?

The server cluster at yorgobiz is hosting namely high power and commercial websites for ChiHosters. YorgoBiz customers get privileged hosting packages often with high memory levels, up to 256 MB Ram without the cost of dedicated servers. The server is configured specifically to host Semiomantics Premium scripts which are hooked to the Semiomantics Optimization Engine (SOE). Ycademy Pro Author Sites are linked to a shared SOE hosted on the same server.
