Calibrate and recover a Maximum of Data

The purpose of this exercise is not to reach a final result but to prepare the image for editing and post-editing. When calibrating, we try to correct systematic shortcomings of our camera. When we edit, we try to drive a maximum of data out of our image, namely because the camera delivers jpeg files which compress away quite some data of which some can be recovered.

Once we have the best possible set of data, we can apply filters and presets with a foreseeable result.

A somewhat more difficult sample in the sense that this image is not ideal for calibrating because of the color range and because it’s zoomed (114 mm in 35 mm equivalent). The image is therefore not at maximum sharpness or detail.

However, it’s a nice bird, worthwhile to spend some time on :-).

Your personal information must be full and accurate. Make sure your First and Last name are printed correctly, as well as your Street Address, City and Zip. Fill in all required fields. At the end of the application process you will be asked to provide a state issued ID which must include a photo of you. (Pass, ID, Drivers License). This proof of identity must be in .jpg format. If you don’t have a scanner, take a shot with your digital camera and show us how good your Macro shots are.

If and when your personal information changes, please contact support to modify or adapt your file with us.

We have added a Visitors Mapping Script to our site which will allow us and our customers to monitor the traffic and origin thereof on the site. In as much as traveling and tourism oriented business is concerned, I guess the feature is useful as it will inform about the markets we reach.

Also, advertisers can adapt and better target their ads in functions of the stats available.

I have crossed out Hanno’s keywords here; also, the site is not really significant since the domain redirects to another of Hanno’s Business sites. But the interest remains in the mapping capabilities Google offers.

New Destination Expo Header

Slowly but surely we are getting there: we have just added an image rotator into the header section of the Destination Expo Portal.For the time being you will see just some black and white images, however the rotator can also be put at the disposal of advertisers.

We are not yet ready, but we have some ideas about our advertising strategy. Our Goal is to satisfy our customers and therefore we will not overload the site with ads. As traffic grows we will introduce more ads spots, function of the result of our visitor mapping and the analysis of the performance per page.

There will be no Google Ads on the site. We aim to reach out for advertisers interested in a global advertising plan, including banners and namely editorials. The advantage is evident: the editorials posted to the Destination Expo portal will enjoy high visibility and we will make it a case of honor to reach Google Top 10 with such editorials.

Bianca Gubalke from Noordhoek near Cape Town in South Africa will be in charge of Advertising and designing the campaigns for our customers.

As you can see, our new site is getting organized. The purpose of the site is to provide it’s content the best possible visibility namely on Search Engines and then to allow visitors to easily navigate and subscribe to topics of their interest.

To assure the best possible exposure we use the latest scripts from Semiomantics based on WordPress. The fine tuning will take about 3 weeks however we expect results earlier.

Places: The menu will be based on the name of an establishment, hotel, accommodation or traveling or tourism related service provider.

Photo Stock Greek Church

Yesterday’s preparatory Training Call for the Ycademy Seminar on “Photo Media Stock – How to present and sell your photos, media, audios and videos online” focused on improving the original photo of a Greek Church that you see right at the bottom of this article, by using the Adjustment Tools in Photoshop CS4.

Here is my quick result…

Here below is the original Photo Stock Greek Church that needed a bit of punch, more definition in the mosaique and bricks, less ‘haze’ in the sky… and this without the windows disappearing into black holes… which they don’t if you enlarge the picture… but just… as I liked to sculpt with a bit more shadow. i could reduce it a tick… Question of feeling, mood and taste…

The professional buyer – be it an art director, a graphic artist or a web designer would perhaps push it all back a bit again, depending on the target. And bear in mind – here we talk Internet – not print.

The advantage of the original photo is that it’s sharp and well focused. Any professional can push it the way he or she wants it… so this was mainly an exercise also to get more familiar with the Adjustment Menu in Photoshop CS4 – which everybody followed with great enthusiasm … especially enjoying the forbidden paths of pushing personal creativity to the limits… Which we of course don’t show here where it’s all for… Photo Stock. So I never demonstrated it… did I?

Not that I want the whole world down here… and especially not at Monkey Valley Beach Resort, my favorite secret place… but South Africa has so much to offer and this is an event for new opportunities – national and abroad!

Today’s launch of the first travel and tourism exhibition, called “Destinations Expo 2010″ in Cape Town may well be the beginning of a future oriented development.

Local Expo – International Audience

The 2010 Expo is first of all a showcase of destinations,accommodation,traveling and holidays in South Africa and other nearby destinations.
Besides all the visitors attending the event, there are millions of people out there who are potentially interested in the topic and who are seeking to satisfy their desires via the Internet.

It is therefore surprising, that the Expo itself did not come up with a decent and well positioned website for and about the event.
Or are the organizers just the play-ball of some large tourism businesses privileging their best paying acolytes?
I don’t have the answer to this question; however, from what I can see, individual hotels, B&Bs, restaurants and lodges cannot individually count on the Expo 2010 to fetch new contacts through the Internet.
While the local crowd may enjoy the event, the remaining 6.5 billion potential customers are left out. This is not really a customer oriented policy, considering that nowadays most bookings are
made online.

Destinations 2010 Cape Town and the Internet

What do you need an Expo for if you cannot reach out for new customers or if the main markets cannot be reached?
If Destination 2010 is a low tech marketing idea, then it is the more important for businesses to brand themselves in a meaningful way online.
Smart examples can be seen at LalakoiPublishing.com and http://gardenroutedirectory.com.
Also some resorts are working on projects distributing highly visible media content, such as the Monkey Valley Resort near Cape Town.

Tourism and the Internet cannot be dissociated.

May be for next years Destinations Expo 2010 the organizers will invite some website developers who in the past have provided excellent services to South African Tourism, Lalakoi Publishing from the Garden Route or Bianca Gubalke Website Developments from Noordhoek, to name just two.

The image was shot with the hand-held Leica V-Lux-20 with a focal length of 49 mm which is equivalent with a 340 mm tele lens (35 mm). Shutter speed was at 1/1000 and F-stop at f/6.3 at ISO-80. Amazing!

Conclusion

Media tagging and semantic publishing is one of the many strong arguments in favor of Semiomantics Framework! The test returned amazing results in spite the fact that we don’t have a special category for Yachts or such like.

The test also reflects the improved media publishing capabilities of Semiomantics scripts; a new Semiomantics XO is in preparation for release towards the end of the year; media optimization will be one of the major improvements compared to the 2010 release.

One of our concerns is the semantic publication of media, namely of photos. Having tuned and optimized the Semiomantics Publishing Framework used on this site for high performance on media which are not readable by Search Engines, we are testing the visibility with this post.

For the purpose of the test, I have loaded an image of the AlumerciA to a highly specialized site with top authority in the field, Live Yachting. The site is a Wiki type of authority site dealing with Yachts and the life around yachts.

The question will now be, whether the Semiomantics Framework can match or beat the authority site on Google Top 10. The risk I take here is obvious: I will tell you the search terms we target: AlumerciA at Astir Beach and Motor Yacht AlumerciA as well as “AlumerciA Images”.

Of course there are sites with multiple posts about the AlumerciA with loads of great content; however, my aim is to measure the performance based on the image and its handling by the Semiomantics Framework.
