Social Blogging or linking Blogs to a Social Network that’s the mission of BuddyPress. Andy Peatling finally released the BuddyPress 1.0 Beta version which is surprisingly stable already. YORGOO Media is experimenting with a semiomantics tuned version of Buddy Press.
BuddyPress is a sister project of WordPress. For the time being it is designed only for WordPress MU, the blogfarm version of WP. It is expected that a version for individual WP sites will become available sooner or later.
BuddyPress comes as a plug in module to the WP MU installation and provides typical features and benefits appreciated by the users of Social Netoworks: Buddy Press is a WP based Social Network Platform.
YORGOO Press is a demo platform loaded with a Semiomantics Tuning Pack where benefits are visible:
Every Network Participant can link to any othe participant using the Friends feature. A request to become friends needs to be answered positively and the two participants are linked. A Friends search tool makes it easy to find new contacts.
Similar features exist for groups: participants can create and join Groups, which can be thematic or geographic or specified by any other pre-configured criteria.
There is a direct messageing system built in, as well as forums for each group.
We will talk about more features in details in the near future.
YORGOO Media is interested in BuddyPress to extend the YORGOO product range namely for customers who are looking for more controll of their online Profile and Content Creation. Not that we expect Buddypress would replace social networks, however by linking a BuddyPress enabled blog to social networks, the bulk of personal creation can be kept outside of social networks and preserved from the dangers inherent to the Social networks building of large databases collection data in relation to behavior.
There is more to it: YORGOO Press is powering online newspapers which can have local or a global target public. Creating a community amongst the readers and contributors can be a plus for any newspaper.
Also, in connection with the Hosting South Africa Project, the creation of a blogging community (we have registerred sablogger.com) with social networking functions and features second to none as a free doorway to joining Hosting South Africa Products is an interesting idea.
Tonight at 9 pm London time we will present YORGOO Media and BuddyPress at our daily call. We will invite participants to test run BuddyPress with us to do some stress testing on on our script.
